Lunch with a REALTOR and Meeting with Caucus Party

Terry and I left the house to meet Mary Bahry, a former President of the Main Street Assoc. of REALTORS.  We met at The Chicken Salad Chick and ate outside!  Terry took the photo.

Mary was President of her board after I was President of North Shore Board of REALTORS.  We would meet at Illinois REALTORS Meetings and were Facebook friends.  She lives not too far from where we are renting.

The Skokie Caucus met tonight on Zoom.  There were about 29 on the Zoom.
Mayor Van Dusen gave a report on the state of the village.

Patchouli

After breakfast, we went to the Bakery in Yalaha to hear Patchouli out in the garden.

We brought our cushions for the chairs and sat ourselves fairly close.  Terry went to get us lunch from the deli.  Probably one of the most inefficient operations, but she got us a chicken salad sandwich to share, along with some chips.  We brought water from home.

We had our Patchouli shirts on, as did two other people.  Julie talked about the video they did during the pandemic of people with the shirts - that was fun - forgot about that. We left after the second set and after I bought a scarf and Terry bought some notecards and she leaving them a  nice tip.

We had a nice conversation with Julie about how difficult things have been with Bruce's bout with cancer, and having to move out of their rental in Naples because of high radon levels (which may have caused Bruce's cancer).   They are staying with some friends in Naples for the time being. I spoke with Bruce and he said almost all of the tumors are gone!!!!  For the holidays, they were at their home in Wisconsin.

Julie told Terry that Bruce may still need some surgery on his hands, but a healer has helped his hands.

Here are some photos:

Julie's dad is in the wheelchair to the left, he's having some mobility issues.

Before the second set ended, a helicopter landed in the grassy field next to where we were all sitting.

Julie and Bruce

After leaving the concert, we went to Beall's for me to return a pair of shoes, and get the right pricing (sale price) for one of the pairs that I purchased yesterday.  Terry returned some earrings and bought something else.

From there we went to Beall's Outlet and I bought some shoes, and a pair of black slacks.  One pair of shoes I'm wearing as I write this and they are my new travel slippers.  I've tossed the old ones as they had seen better days. I'll try on the other shoes with hose tomorrow.

Terry bought two tops and a bracelet.

We came back to the house and rested before Terry made us pasta with broccoli for dinner.

We will have a quiet evening.  I'm going to try listening to the next book club book.  The first chapter was very weird.  If the second one is as weird, I'll return the book to the library.

Rock and Roll

After lunch we ventured out to the real Beall's in search of shoes for me.

I bought 3 pairs in the Beall's off of County Road 466 and will walk around in them.

Terry bought some earrings and some panties (unfortunately, they did not have my size in the panties)

We also went to the Dollar Tree in the same strip center for some water and snacks for tonight.

We went to Beall's on Highway 441 in hopes that they would have the panties in my size.  Unfortunately, they did not have the same ones, but I did get two pairs of different brands.  And, wait for it, bought another pair of shoes.

Hopefully the shoes will work, or I will have to resort to boxes.

Came back to the house to rest and had our leftovers for dinner.

We met Diane and Tom and others at Laurel Manor for The History of Rock and Roll, with Brian Gillie.

He had us singing and remembering some oldies but goodies.  Terry had wine, and I had water, and we brought pretzels to share.

Here he has on one of the crazy wigs he had with him.

61th Anniversary

At 2 a.m., there was a sound like a jet plane landing in our front yard.  We have no idea what it was but it woke us both.

The property manager came to fix the refrigerator filter, but the filter light is still on and it squirted water on the floor and down the refrigerator door when Terry went to fill our glasses.  He also brought a gate pass, so we don't have to go into the visitor lane, or get out of the car to push the red button to open the community gate.

After working and doing laundry, and Marilyn sorting her box of mail which was delivered to the house, Diane and Tom picked us up to go to Stumpknockers to celebrate their 61st anniversary!  We were at their wedding - though Terry cannot remember who her date was, even though she has seen the photo.  The food was good.  The restaurant is on a river and it is in an antique building - especially the ladies room!

We ordered four desserts, to eat later.  We went back to Diane and Tom's to play cards and eat the dessert.  Terry sliced each dessert into four pieces, so we each got a taste of each dessert.  We are stuffed!!!!

Delightful Evening

We participated in our Politics Group, via Zoom.  In addition to current events we discussed Frederick Douglass (we had listened to a podcast about a July 4th speech he gave).

We were home until after lunch. We had stopped at Walmart and you would have thought they were giving something away.  Finally, moved out of a checkout line with a human into a self-serve checkout.

Then we ran to Marie Rose (they were having a sale).  Terry bought a necklace.  I bought nothing.

Went to Ethel and Steve's for dinner and had a lovely evening.  Delicious food and great conversation.

Nice photo of our hosts.

The Villages - New Area

We left the house to go pick up Ethel to tour the new areas on the south end - near the turnpike.

After picking her up, we saw the many new things near where they are renting.  Including a new McDonalds.

We headed to Sawgrass Grove and saw the Marketplace that is like a food court.  New square???

The Market at Sawgrass Grove: the Market includes Little Fin Seafood Shack, Willy’s Original Smashburgers, Frenchy’s Wood-Fired, The Villages Grown, The Market Bar, The Local Butcher & Pantry, Teaching Kitchen, Southern Oaks Golf Pro-Shop, Darlin’s Sweet Shoppe, and Golden Hills Coffee.

Because it was windy, we opted to eat at McGrady's Pub, instead of from the food court and sit outside. We had sandwiches and mine was very good.

We came home and I finished the Professional Standards Program.

We have our Sisterhood Board Meeting tonight.

Not as Busy a Day

Today was a cool day and I put on my coat to get the newspaper off of the driveway.

Checked students' emails and did laundry.  Terry did laundry too.

We went on our Temple's Symposium, but had to leave early because the property manager came to set up the TV in the bedroom, change the filter on the refrigerator ice maker/water dispenser, and fix the piece from the dishwasher that fell off.

After lunch and a nap, I reviewed the professional standards recording for a program that I missed during one of our travel days. I'm about a third of the way through the program.

Terry napped too and then we had our Mexican leftovers - yummy.

We then went on a Barry Bradford Zoom about Aaron Sorkin's movies.  Interesting presentation.

Zoom, Errands and Beauty Shop

After my 11 a.m. Zoom with Jan Schakowsky and the host team for her Power Luncheon, we had lunch and then left the house.

We went to the Temple to recycle our newspapers.

From there we went to the new Aldi's (actually Terry went into Aldi's while I pumped gas next door at the 7-11).

We went to the Postal Station, and no package for Terry.  But, ran into someone I know, a past president of the Main Street REALTOR Association.

We got home and put the groceries away.  Terry called her post office, in Des Plaines, and the person with whom she spoke gave her the tracking number and then tracked the package and informed Terry that her package had been delivered to the house!!!!  Sure enough it was on the porch!!!

We rested before leaving for the beauty shop.  Vanessa is still in the same place and made us both beautiful?

It was after 8 p.m., when we left Vanessa's.  We had hoped to go to Oakwood for ribs, but they are closed on Monday.

Instead we stopped at the Mexican restaurant, Naldo's, and had good fajitas. We have dinner for tomorrow night!

Ice House Theatre

As I was getting ready to go to the theatre, I had a little friend (Gecko)visit my bathroom - he was between the outside and inside window.  Fortunately, when we got back home, he had left.

We went to the Ice House Theatre , in Mount Dora, to see Moon over Buffalo.  It was a cute French Farce. Terry bought raffle tickets, but this time she did not win!

We stopped at Orange Blossom County Club for dinner and had a good dinner.

We are now home and just talked with cousin Jeff.  He's going on a cruise in February!

Oops!  I forgot to write the blog last night

We went to the hospital resale shop to hunt for a lamp for my bedroom, which has no overhead light, and a tiny lamp.  Found a lamp for $6.42 that has a three-way bulb!  Terry sat in the backseat of the car to babysit the lamp!  I can now read!

We were also on the hunt for a black shell for Terry, as she forgot to bring one from home, and the one from Anthony's, that she bought yesterday, was wildly expensive.  She found one that fit even better than the one from Anthony's.

We also stopped at a Dollar Tree for a few things.  All of the Dollar Tree stores looked so picked over.  The snowbirds must be raiding the stores.

We stopped at the postal trailer to see if Terry's box was there - it was not.

We went to Anthony's so Terry could return the shell that she bought yesterday.  Mission accomplished.

We went back to the postal trailer, but still no package for Terry.  She'll contact the Des Plaines Post Office Monday.

The property manager called and said that his cleaning lady had the new sheets for Terry's bed (there was a hole in one of the original sheets).  The woman, and her husband, came and she put the new sheets on in a jiffy!

We had our leftovers from Glenview Golf Club for dinner - yummy!

At 7:30 our time, we went on the Sisterhood Program about Jews in Canada!  It was excellent.  Kudos to Carol Berger and her team.  People were on the program from all over the U.S., Canada, and from other places out of the country.

Friday, January 20, 2023

Before lunch our doorbell rang and it was Steve, the property manager.  He brought over a vacuum cleaner and attached it to the wall in the garage.

He also, are you ready for this - fixed the stove so it no longer sticks out, and the dishwasher  door no longer hits the stove!

Color me excited.  Terry cooks and I clean up!  Dishwasher makes life easier!

After he left, I went into a REALTOR Training for FPC's (Federal Political Coordinators).   I started out on the enclosed porch I had to displace a gecko and resumed the meeting - until gecko #2 started moving.  I came back into the house and moved into my bedroom for the balance of the Zoom.

I checked email to find that Amazon had delivered my order of vitamins and next to it was my Premium Forwarded box from the post office.

We left the house to go to the postal trailer to see if Terry's mail was there.  It was not.  We will go back tomorrow.

Anthony's was having a sale - everything 25% off, so we went down there.  Terry bought three tops, and I bought one.

I also took a book that I had finished to the book store there and with my credits I purchased a CD of a book that we can listen to on the way home.

We went to the postal trailer again as more mail had arrived, however, nothing for Terry.

Came home and had our left over Thai dinners and then went on our Temple's services.

Thursday, January 19, 2023

It was a beautiful day and after our Politics Zoom Session with Sally, et. al., we had lunch and then went shopping.

We went to the consignment shop Marie Rose and each bought a few things.  We next went to Beall's Outlet on 42 (Mulberry) and I bought a couple of pairs of slacks and a top. Terry did not buy anything!

We came back to the house to rest for a few minutes before leaving to meet Joy at Glenview Country Club.  We had a pleasant dinner catching up.  As you can see, we all have leftovers.

Beautiful Day

Got up early and answered student emails while doing laundry.

After breakfast, Terry and I drove over to Belk's so Terry could return some earrings that she purchased there the other day.  We also stopped in to Publix to get a few things.

Came back and had a quick lunch and I went into my REALTOR Board's Past President's Meeting.  After that, Terry and I signed on to Oak Park Library's program about Carole King.

Tonight was Market Night at Sumter Landing and we went over there to hear Rocky and the Rollers, and look at the booths selling things.  A lot fewer booths than in prior years.  Terry bought a pair of earrings to match the shirt she was wearing.

We stopped into Ruby Thai and had a delicious dinner.  We have left overs.  I had chicken with sweet and sour sauce and Terry had chicken with cashews.

Ladies Who Lunch

Diane had a lovely lunch using her Grandma's hand-painted china.  She served a lovely lunch and it was a delight to eat in such elegant surroundings.  Diane is planning on donating ,or selling, the china as she doesn't often entertain like this.

Present were Nancy (next door neighbor, whom we had not met before).  Gloria, Joanne, Joyce, Pat, and Kathy.  Unfortunately, Karen could not make it as Tom (her husband) passed away last week.

After dinner, Terry went on a Barry Bradford program and I went on our Sisterhood's Nominating Committee Meeting.

Busy Day

We had a list of errands to run and started out before 10 a.m. We stopped at Aldi's for a few things,

Then on to Dollar Tree for some cleaning supplies.  Also stopped at  Sally's Beauty Supply, but they did not have what I was looking for.

Got Gas, stopped at Spanish Springs Sales Office and got our credentials, deposited mail, and got a car wash! Went to Big Lots, where Terry found a dish drainer, as using the dishwasher is not an option (see yesterday's blog).

While Terry was in Big Lots, I returned the shoes I bought yesterday to Beall's Outlet next door..

Since we were in Leesburg, we stopped at the Great Chicago Fire.  Terry had gyros and I had a meatball sandwich.

The owner is partial to the White Sox, no Cubs stuff anywhere.

Our last stop was Belk's where I ordered my Clinique for their gift/sale at the end of the month.

At 8 p.m. our time, we are going on our Sisterhood Book Club.

The House of Many Adventures

This morning, we both did laundry and when the washing machine bounced, Terry turned it off.  We had an adventure getting it back on track.  We unplugged it, and just like a computer it liked that and started working properly again.

Diane and Tom came over with a lamp that they had bought for their daughter and then forgot to take it to her.  They were feeling sorry for us as it is DARK in the living room.  It makes a world of difference.

After Diane and Tom left, we got our Beall's Outlet and Anthony's fix.  I bought a pair of shoes that I will walk around in to see if they are comfortable. Terry tried on a few things but bought nothing. Terry went into Publix for a few things.

I went to load the dishwasher for the first time as we had been hand washing our dishes up to now.  You cannot open the dishwasher door as it hits the stove!  Back to handwashing.

Terry texted the property manager about the dishwasher and his answer had us laughing so hard we were crying.  "Yes, a quirk in that house is the dishwasher door, really dumb design (I forgot to mention it).  If you open the oven door it does allow for more access to the dishwasher.  Not perfect but doable."

Terry tested his theory and it really doesn't work as you cannot slide out the rack to load the dishwasher.

We think Rube Goldberg designed the house.

On our travels, we see this in front of a neighbor's house and it cracks us up each time.

Frustrating Day

Terry was doing laundry when I left the house to visit the trailer that is now the postal station for our area to find that they were closed!!!!!!

Terry's premium forwarded box was at the trailer yesterday, but mine was not.

After many telephone calls - UNANSWERED, to the Skokie and Lady Lake Post Offices, I finally got a tracking number from the Skokie Post Office and found that the package arrived yesterday in Lady Lake.

Since the Postal Station was closed, I went back to the house, picked up Terry, and we went to the Lady Lake Post Office.  They did not have the box!!!  Went back to the postal station/trailer and found that they do not open until noon (while Lady Lake closes at noon).  No one at Lady Lake knew the hours of the trailer.

We waited in the car for about a half hour until they opened.  Terry would not let me go in as she was afraid I would go POSTAL  When she went in, they told her they were not yet done sorting the mail.

She saw that large boxes were in bins with the street's name.  There was one premium box in Lavaca's bin and she told them that she wanted that box!  IT WAS MY BOX, WHICH HAD BEEN THERE SINCE YESTERDAY!  They gave her my box!

I was so happy that she got aggressive with them, that I took her to lunch at Lil Bits.

From there we went to Goodwill and I got a soap dish and toothbrush holder for the bathroom.

We than drove a little further south to another Dollar Tree to see if they had a dish rack.  They did not.

We came back home and Diane and Tom came over with our box that we keep in their garage.

We had our leftover turkey dinners and will be resting.

We have a long list of things that we need from the property manager.  We had gone to the sales office in Spanish Springs for our credentials yesterday and they were not there.  He's researching.

Friday, January 13, 2023

After I did laundry, Terry wanted to weigh in at WW (Weight Watchers), so we left the house for her to do that.  Went to the post office to mail some mail, and then had breakfast/lunch at KeKe's.

We then went to Target for Terry to get some items she was not able to find at Walmart yesterday.

We came home to rest and then met Ethel and Steve at Too Jays in Sumter Landing.  Terry and I had a Thanksgiving Dinner (turkey) and matzo ball soup.  We have left overs!

We are now going on to our Temple's Shabbat Services.  We'll see Ethel online.

Thursday, January 12, 2023

Neither Terry nor I had a great night of sleep.  Hopefully, tonight will be better.

We did unpacking of our offices and are now organized.  We moved the grey bar stools to the kitchen table and took two of the chairs from the kitchen table for the counter.  The kitchen table chairs are a good two inches shorter, which we can get on easily.  We are eating in the kitchen at the high table on the two greenish chairs similar to the ones we moved in front of the counter.

We participated in the politics group we belong to.  Terry on her computer in the kitchen and me at the dining room table.

The property manager came and was kind enough to show us how some stuff works and he got the hot water to run in the shower.  I took a cold shower this morning - yuck!

We ran to Angela's Nail to get pedicures and then went to Dollar Tree - a new one near Walmart on Highway 466!  So exciting to have one over there. They were building it when we left in 2020.

We ran to Walmart and did a big shopping.  Color us tired!

Terry made us mac and cheese for dinner, with a salad, and we are RESTING.

Wednesday, January 11, 2023

We had breakfast at the Hyatt Place South Airport.  Or, Marilyn had breakfast, Terry tried a few scrambled eggs, but ate her banana not wanting to take any chances on stomach issues during the ride to The Villages.  During breakfast, the fruit cup splattered Marilyn and she had to wash her pants and used the hair dryer on what she washed.

We had our usual stops for gas, potty breaks and lunch.  We had Wendy's for lunch and Terry had a plain chicken sandwich and Marilyn had the chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato and sauce.

We finally made it to the Florida Visitor Center.

Our GPS took us off of I 75 because of an accident and then back on to I 75 sometime later.

We finally arrived at the house.  It has lots of potential, but most light switches do NOT work, no good lighting, and the furniture is pretty uncomfortable.  Fortunately, its only for a little more than 7 weeks.

Tuesday, January 10, 2023

We left the Baymont Hotel before 8 a.m., Central Time.  We had "breakfast" in the room.  Terry had a banana and crackers and I had oatmeal and a cookie.

The environment light is NOT on.  I think it was the use of cruise control.  Stopped using cruise control and we had no more problem.

We made multiple stops for gas and washroom.  Before getting to Atlanta.

Beautiful scenery on the way!

Lunch was a McDonald's cheeseburger and Terry had her apple sauce, crackers and pretzels.

No traffic where I 24 and I 75 meet!  But we did hit traffic on I 75 going toward the Hyatt Place Hotel.  Getting to the hotel is tricky and luckily Terry knew which way to go as the GPS was not too specific.

There are two hotels together and the other hotel has a "restaurant." I use the word in jest.  It's a burger place.  They have a small menu but did not have any chicken or other things on the menu.  We settled for hamburgers (Terry had plain) and I had a cheeseburger. (two in one day - that's a record for me).  The fries were good, Terry did not eat any.  The burgers were a little under cooked, but we managed.

Barry Bradford is doing a program on Zoom about the TV Show West Wing and we plan to watch on my computer.

 January 9, 2023

Terry is feeling better so I picked her up and we packed the car!

We left Terry's at 9:30 a.m.  I drove as I wanted Terry to just relax.

We stopped at a McDonalds and I got a cheeseburger and Terry drank water.  She had some crackers that she ate in the car.

The environment light on the car went on!  Called Cadillac, in Northbrook, who had just tested the car for the road.  He said we could drive as long as it was not flashing.  Gave us the name of some places to have it diagnosed and to call him with the code.

We got to the Baymont Hotel - checked in and weighed our options for Tuesday morning.

Here was the sunset as we entered Ruby Tuesdays!

Went to dinner at Ruby Tuesdays and both had chicken and a baked potato.  There were very short handed, but it was fine.

THE ENVIRONMENT LIGHT WENT OFF.  Hopefully on Tuesday morning it will have stayed off.
