Cool Day and Stitches Out

We left the house early to go to Mt. Dora to have Marilyn's stitches removed after Mohs Surgery.

We stopped at the Hospital Resale Shoppe on the way back and each bought one item.  Terry also dropped off some more plastic bags.

It was lunch time and we decided to go to the Brooklyn Bagel Shop and get egg salad sandwiches. We both have half of our sandwich left over.

We came home to rest, do laundry, and listen to our "homework" for Thursday's class with Sally.

At 7 p.m., we turned on Jeopardy.

At 7:30 p.m., we went into Barry Bradford's Zoom on What Just Happened this Month.

Cool Day and Oh So Pretty

After lunch, we left to go see Vanessa to work her magic on our hair!

On the way home we stopped at Aldi and Terry got the rest of the things on her list.

We are watching the news and will be watching Jeopardy.

To everyone in Mexico, especially Puerta Vallarta, -be safe.

Rain in the morning and then a nice overcast day

We did not leave the house until after noon to go to a Craft Fair and Gem Show at Seabreeze. Recreation Center.  We both bought earrings.  We stopped at the postal station so we could put Marilyn's ballot into the mail.

Marilyn has had a taste for pizza and we went for a late lunch for pizza, in Southern Trace Shopping Center.   They had a lunch special and we both got individual pizza.  The sausage was different but plentiful.  We both have leftovers.

Terry went into Publix for a few things - Marilyn waited in the car.

Mindy and Glenn went to our apartments to check things out and report all is fine.

They sent Terry her ballot via priority mail,  so she should be able to vote soon.

Cookie and Thrift Shoppe

We left the house to return the cookies and one of the muffins from the bakery as they did not taste good.  There was a problem with one of the ingredients and we were not sure it was safe to eat.

Terry went in to return the cookies and said the lady there was lovely and gave her back Stacy and Mindy's money.

Since we were so close to the Ye Olde Thrift Shoppe, we stopped there. We each bought two tops.  We also ran into our friend Joy (who volunteers there).

We stopped at the Dollar Tree for a few things, including cards.

We then went home to eat our Thai leftovers from last night for lunch.

We left the house again around 5 p.m., thinking we'd go for pizza.

They had a 40 minute wait and we decided to just stop for gas at Costco and go to Dollar Tree as Terry needed one more card.

Terry warmed up some chicken from Publix for dinner.

Great Day

The weather was perfect and just after breakfast, and we were still in our pj's, when the doorbell rang.

Terry answered and it was a local bakery with cookies for Marilyn (recovery gift from Mindy and Stacy). The delivery person also brought two muffins because the delivery did not happen yesterday.  What a wonderful thing for the girls to do.

We had a quick lunch and got showered and dressed to go to The Sharon to see Three Tenors + Plus One.

Mr. Washington was ill and a local talent - Alex Spears -substituted and was excellent

Grant Norman is now gray and should get a new photo

We met Ethel and Steve there and went to Ruby Thai for dinner with them.

We then came home with just a few minutes before Temple Services, where Carol Berger was honored.

Carol Klein Alexander had already left the  Bima when they asked Carol Berger to stay on to sing Shehecheyanu

Another Beautiful Day and Busy Day

Since the tape for the face pads the Dermatologist gave Marilyn were not self sticking, Marilyn ran to CVS to get tape, as the Amazon order did not come when expected.

Terry and Marilyn put the pad on Marilyn's face and did a not too good job.  But, underneath, it looks good.

At 11 a.m., we ran to Sumter Landing and the Lighthouse for lunch with Diane, Patti and Sherry (Patti's daughter), for a mini Kelvyn Park High School Reunion. We ordered shrimp that had to be pealed ,as an appetizer, as Patti and Sherry were delayed at the dentist.  Patti was in the dentist chair for two hours and because of shots could not feel well enough to eat. Sherry did order.  NO PHOTO - WE ARE SO BAD.

Patti and Sherry from a couple of  years ago at our rental

At 6 p.m., we were at Rohan Recreation Center to see a couple who does Presidents and First Ladies (we've seen them numerous times).  They were doing John and Abagail Adams this time.

Beautiful Day

While we did not leave the house until after lunch, we enjoyed the sun and warmer temps.

Marilyn is recovering well, though appears to be bruised.  Tomorrow, Marilyn can take off the packing and put on a fresh covering.

Marilyn did not know that the new bandages that were given to her needed tape to work - good thing she called and asked the question.  The nurse, with whom she spoke, was surprised that no tape was in the bag with the bandages. Amazon is overnighting more bandages and tape.

Marilyn has been wearing a mask when out in public.

We were out in public today when we went to Walmart.  Marilyn picked up antiseptic cream while Terry did grocery shopping.

After dinner, the news, and Jeopardy, Terry was on the telephone with Mindy, who read her mail to her.

We then both went on the Men of URJ's Zoom with Rabbi Rick Jacobs, the head of URJ (the reform movement).

Rick is so well spoken and addressed antisemitism, ICE, Israel, etc.

Mohs Surgery

We were up and out of the house early to get to Mt. Dora for Marilyn to have Mohs Surgery. (9:30 A.M. appt).

Marilyn's blood pressure was 179 before the surgery - very nervous!!!!

They had to scrape twice and we left after noon.

The prescription was called in later, so we postponed going to Walmart until tomorrow.  We stopped at CVS so Marilyn could get some Extra Strength Tylenol.  Marilyn put on a mask to go into CVS so people would not be forced to look at the bandage.

What we did not anticipate was how difficult the bandage made it to eat or drink, or blow Marilyn's nose.  It stays on until Thursday.

Marilyn's been icing it every hour (thanks to Terry and her setting her alarm).  Terry soaked some washcloths and put them into plastic bags and put them into the freezer.

We watched the news, Jeopardy, and then went into Barry Bradford's presentation about George Washington (the richest president).  Marilyn slept and missed the ending.

Mindy and Stacy called and they were concerned about Marilyn.

Pedicures

We both got pedicures at Angel's Nails this morning.

We walked over to Ll'L Bits for lunch and both have leftovers from our salads.

We came home to change shoes and then left the house again to go to recycle our newspapers at St. Timothy's.

From there we went to Belk's as Terry was looking for an inexpensive ring.  No luck.

Tonight, after Jeopardy, we went onto Zoom and our Sisterhood Book Club.  The book we will be discussing will be HOW TO READ A BOOK.

A Taste of Chicago

We went to pick up Ethel, and off we went to Portillo's for beef sandwiches!  A taste of home!

Terry had a gift card for Portillo's - thanks to whomever bought it for the family grab bag at Christmas.  We got a parking space right in front of the entrance!

After driving to see Eastport (we did not walk it as it was very windy), we got back into The Villages we are familiar with and dropped Ethel off.

We stopped for gas and then came home for Terry to finish reading the book club book HOW TO READ A BOOK.  She is enjoying it and hopes to finish in time for tomorrow's discussion.

Happy Valentine's Day

Terry and Marilyn opened valentines from Mindy and Glenn and from each other.

Our valentines did not reach Mindy and Glenn.  They did reach Stacy and Mark.  Not sure about the kids.  We mailed them on 2/4 - first class mail from the POST OFFICE!

We left the house and headed down South to Eisenhower Rec. Center for a craft fair.  We bought a few things.  We ran into Ethel while there and she had been up since early morning to take Steve to the airport for his trip home for an infusion.

When we got home, we had to call Bernie (our landlord) since the TV was not working.  However, after an hour or so, the same problem arose.  We'll let him know again in the morning.

MahJongg and Temple

After lunch, Diane and Ethel came over and we played mahjongg.  Terry and Marilyn did well and took some hands as did Ethel.  Unfortunately, Diane did not.

At 8p.m. our time, we went onto Temple Services.

Thursday, February 12, 2026

Happy Lincoln's Birthday

We had a busy day.  After breakfast, Terry went into Sally's History and Politics class on Zoom, and Marilyn went into the North Shore-Barrington Assoc. of REALTORS' Contracts Meeting.  After her meeting ended, Marilyn caught the very end of Sally's class.

After a quick lunch, we both went into Barry Bradford's Zoom presentation about Who Killed Kennedy for the Seaford Library.

We next went over to St. Tim's Catholic Church for a concert with Grant Norman and Other Broadway Stars.

Karen, who was singing in the choir, saved seats for our group in the fifth row center!  Ethel and Steve, Diane and Tom, and Gloria joined us.  It was a great concert.

Laura Hodos, David Chernault, Renee Lawless, Angie Rose, Eileen Fitting

Melissa Minyard, Brian Minyard, Maria Steinhilber, Grant Norman were all performers.

Thanks to Ethel for making a list of the performers.

Finale

From the concert, we all went to Chili's for dinner.  They had a three for that included soup or salad, a drink, and entrees and Tom and Diane got FREE chips and salsa for the table (as they are members).

Zoom Day

Before lunch, we went onto a Zoom with CJE about WWII in Poland and the Schindler Factory.  We expected to just see the factory.  However, now it is a museum dedicated to the War.

We then ran to Goodwill and Terry got some tops, and Marilyn bought a scarf!

After dinner, we had a Zoom with Ethel, Joan, and Arlene.

Marilyn was in her bedroom and Terry was in the living room.

Chicagoland Ladies - Trivia

About 11 a.m., we went to Chicagoland Ladies where we met Diane, Karen, and Gloria.  The meeting was Trivia and our group sucked.  One table got 60 correct - we were in the 30's  (maybe 40's) I think.

We were to bring appetizers and Terry brought what we call Stacy's pizza (croissants, cream cheese, and veggies) and Marilyn brought shrimp.

Diane had secured the speaker and he was good.  His name was Tom - did not catch his last name.

After dinner, we watched Jeopardy, and then we went, on our I-Pads, into Barry Bradford's presentation about Howard Hughes.

Mahjongg

Today, we substituted again in Diane's Monday game.  This time at Dale's home in a Village in Marion County.  Terry and I won most hands.  Pat took one hand, Diane took two, and Dale did not take any.

Dale, Diane and Pat (photo from last week)

After leaving mahjongg we went to Walmart in search of pÄ…czki.- donuts that people eat right before Ash Wednesday.  They did not have any!

Our favorite ones

After dinner, we watched some ice skating from yesterday that we had recorded.

We also spoke with Ida and her biopsy did not happen.  A disagreement between doctors about how best to proceed with her problem.

Our Temple had a meeting of those interested in helping immigrants and it was a well-attended meeting, via Zoom.

We Did NOT Watch the Super Bowl

No, we did not watch the Super Bowl!

We read or worked at our desk(s) for a good part of the day.

Marilyn finished the Sisterhood Book Club Book - How To Read A Book.

A little after 5 p.m., Joy joined us for dinner. After a little mix up as to which Terry invited her for dinner.

Beautiful Day and Almost in the 70's

Marilyn spent the morning opening mail from the box she received yesterday.  Everything was sorted, and bills paid.

Marilyn watched the Jeopardy show she had recorded that we missed while at Lynnhaven last night.

We next went into our Family's Book Club with Mindy, Stacy and Ashley.  The photo below shows the background behind Mindy and  Stacy, at Stacy's home, and the background behind Ashley that had to do with the book theme.  Terry and I did not put the background up. The book was Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murders.  Marilyn was on her computer on the Lanai and  Terry was on her laptop at her desk and then at the dining room table.

We were concerned because Terry's camera was fuzzy on her new laptop.  Until she used a wipe on the camera and it all of a sudden it became clear!  We picked our next book - The Correspondent.

After lunch, we went to the local book store with our two copies of the book  we just finished, and got a $9 credit.  They did not have the March Sisterhood Book or the April Family Book Club Book.

As long as we were at Colony, we stopped in Beall's Outlet at Colony.  Marilyn got some underpants and that was the big purchase for the day.

We went to Anthony's (they were having a 25% off sale) we bought nothing.

Terry went into Publix and Marilyn waited for her in the car.

We had recorded the Olympics Opening Ceremony and watched that, and then watched some figure skating that we had recorded.

Friday, February 6, 2026

Cold and Windy Day

We left the house after lunch to run to Costco where Marilyn put gas in the car, and Terry got chicken salad and croissants for tonight.

Hopefully, Marilyn recorded the Olympics Opening - we will watch it tomorrow.

Tonight, we went to Laurel Manor Rec. Center for Lynnhaven Neighbors.

The entertainer sang Billie Joel songs.  He also had a sax player with him.

Everyone brought some food.  Karen brought shrimp and Gloria's deviled eggs (Gloria had a back problem and could not make it) Marlene took her place.  Diane and Tom brought rye bread with cream cheese and cucumber slices on top, Pat brought brownies.  We brought chicken salad and croissants.

Busy Day- We Never Left the House

Marilyn had a meeting of the IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, READ Board, which she attends on behalf of the school for whom she teaches.

We both went on the History and Politics Zoom with Sally.  It was an interesting discussion of the Japanese Internment and current politics.

Marilyn then attended, via Zoom, North Shore Barrington Assoc. of REALTORS Government Affairs Meeting.

Terry was catching up on three days of newspapers while Marilyn was in her meetings.

After dinner of leftovers from our dinner last night, we both went on WRJ's The Making of Fiddler on the Roof.  We both enjoyed the program.

BTW:  Marilyn had her coat on to go outside - twice - once for the newspaper and once with the garbage.

Wednesday, February 4, 2026

Beautiful Day

Today was sunny, a little cool, and a little windy, but nothing like the past few days.

We stopped  at the postal station for Terry to  pick up a note and some checks sent by Mindy.

From there we went to the Post Office on Highway 301 to mail our valentines.

Terry made a good dinner for us and Ethel and Steve.  She gave Ethel and Steve some leftover dessert which she made (apple dump cake).

Tuesday, February 3, 2026

Sunny Day

We did not leave the house until after lunch.

Terry spent part of the morning going through our plastic bags and put the bags from Dollar Tree into another bag for the Hospital Thrift Shop.

We went to the Hospital Thrift Shop and she deposited the bags there.  We tried on clothes, but did not buy any.  Terry got a case for her ear buds and cords.  We bought a small Toaster Oven.  Hopefully it will work (it said tested).

From there we went to Publix, where Terry dropped off some of their bags for recycling.

Walmart was next and we both bought some things.

Terry went into Costco to get something for dinner tomorrow night and for tonight's dinner.

She also made brownies (they smelled so good while cooking) and they tasted good too.

We will be going onto Barry Bradford's presentation about Rockefeller and then watch Jeopardy which Marilyn taped.

Monday, February 2, 2026

Sunny Day and COLD

Another night of running the water so the pipes would not freeze.

We waited until it got warmer before leaving the house.

We started at the postal station, where Terry's book came in.  She already had read the book via her library.

We next went to Charles Schwab at Sumter Landing so Marilyn could get another check written for a 2025 RMD Charity that never received their check.

We also stopped at Aldi's in Sumter for Terry to purchase some items for our guests on Wednesday.

Terry reported that it was a nice store.

After dinner and watching Jeopardy, Marilyn went on the Skokie Village Board Meeting.

Sunday, February 1, 2026

Sunday and it's FREEZING COLD

Marilyn got up during the night to put on her winter scarf and her robe as the wind made it very cold!  We were dripping the water in the  kitchen and in Terry's bathroom as they are on outside walls.  We will do that again tonight.

Marilyn went out in her winter coat after it had warmed up to 38 and went out for the newspaper on the driveway!

The camera covers we bought arrived from Amazon, but it turns out Terry did not need it.  Long story, which we'll tell later in this blog.

We both worked on our emails, and Marilyn opened her mail box that had come yesterday.  Some tax forms are missing and she'll be making calls tomorrow.

Marilyn set up a Zoom meeting for her and Terry, so we could find out why her camera was not working when she was on Zoom (on her new laptop ) on Thursday for Sally's class.  After a frustrating hour of trying to figure it out, Terry texted Ashley to learn that her camera has a built-in open and close feature - who knew!  The quality of her camera is just fair, but she is able to use the camera.

Terry finished the book for the family book club next Saturday!

Terry was planning on our having chicken for dinner, but Marilyn requested that we have the stuffed peppers from Costco and that is what we had.  If you haven't tried them, put them on your list.  They come 6 to a package and are wonderful..

Mail and Publix

Not a very exciting day.  Cold and windy day.  Tonight, we will let the faucets drip since it will be in the 20's.

We left the house after lunch to get Marilyn's mail

We then went to Publix and Terry went in and got a few things.  She said it was like a zoo as people were preparing for the cold days ahead.

Jessica and Andrew were picked up at the airport, after their Mexican trip, by Stacy and are on their way back to Wisconsin.

Some Florida people posted on Facebook a message to people from the North.  Your weather is in my backyard, come and get it.

Waiting for Freezing Cold

After lunch, we hosted mahjongg at our house with Ethel, Diane and Joy.

Another selfie with me, Terry, Ethel, Joy and Diane.  We REMEMBERED to take a photo!

We are listening to the news and they are fixated on the weather.  We asked the landlord if he wanted to cover the water pipes and he said he did not think it was necessary.

We are going to be watching Jeopardy and then our Temple Services.

Thursday, January 29, 2026

Another Cold Day

Jeopardy was on at 9 a.m., and Marilyn watched it.

We both went onto Sally's class and Terry had trouble accessing her camera on her new laptop.  She moved to her I-Pad and was in business.

Marilyn took a look at her settings on her new laptop and her camera was in the off position.  It was working when we put it into the on position.  We ordered camera covers from Amazon to come on Saturday.

After lunch, we went to the Hospice Resale Shop, which Diane had told us about.  They did not have too much in the way of clothing.

We next went to Marie Rose (consignment shop) and again bought nothing.

We heard the news about how cold it will be over the weekend (20's) and asked the landlord about turning off the underground sprinkler system so the driveway would not freeze.  Bernie had to come over to turn off the system as Marilyn could not get the box open.  We will run water where the faucets are on outside walls.

We watched the evening version of Jeopardy also.

Thanks to Jan Flapan for telling us about the League of Women Voter's Senate Democratic Debate, we were able to stream it.

Evidentially, there are more than the three leading Democratic candidates running, and there are also Republicans running.  The candidates who were on had similar policies  The ones we heard from were Robin Kelly, Raja Krishnamoorthi, and Juliana Stratton.

Wednesday, January 28, 2026

Cold Day

It was another day with freeze warnings overnight.

It did get up to 58 degrees later in the day, while we were out.

We listened to a podcast about the Japanese Interment, with Rachael Maddow.

We then listened to Main Justice, with Mary McCord and Andrew Weissmann.

We then watched yesterday's Jeopardy, which Marilyn had recorded.

Marilyn then listened to the economist from the National Assoc. of REALTORS, Lawrence Yun.

We then, finally, left the house to run to Dollar Tree, Costco, and Publix.

After dinner, we are watching the news and then Jeopardy.

Tuesday, January 27, 2026

Lazy Day and Laundry

We had a lazy day and it was COLD outside.

I know no one feels sorry for us, but Florida is having freeze warnings, wind chill, and warming centers.

We both did laundry and the laundry room is in the garage - burr!

We caught up on the Sunday and Monday newspapers and hopefully, will be able to read Tuesday's paper before it is Wednesday.  Marilyn did the crossword for both Monday and Tuesday.

We also listened to the news - depressing!!!

At 7:30 our time, we will go onto Barry Bradford's presentation of what happened this month.
