After a quick bite at home, we left for one of the local recreation centers for our first bridge lesson.
We arrived and there was a nice looking lady sitting by herself so we asked if we could join her. No sooner had we gotten seated, a gentleman (whom she knew) came and asked if he could sit with us. Of course, we said yes. Well, we lucked out - as they both, RoseAnn and David, have played before, so we did not get the real newbies. When we were getting ready to leave at the end of the class David asked if we would all stick together for the balance of the classes - we said yes. RoseAnn's husband already plays bridge and is a better player than she and David's wife just left to go back to Long Island for a visit, and I believe she plays also.
The teacher followed a book that I think was too advanced for a real beginner. For instance, in the first chapter, it discusses how to score hands!
We even have homework!!! Being good little apple polishers, I'm sure Terry and I will read the homework! You can see that it is a BIG book. Because we four had some experience, we were looking up some conventions that we remembered. When looking up one convention, at the end of the book, where terms are outlined - it said that "the convention was beyond the scope of this book." We had a good laugh over that.
