Treated to Brunch and Canasta

We both had a little breakfast before dressing and picking up Arlene and Joan at 11 a.m. to go to brunch, at L'il Bits, their treat, as a thank you for giving them transportation and arranging activities for them.

We had a nice brunch and then went to their house for an afternoon of playing canasta.  Near the end of the afternoon, we discovered that one deck of cards did not have any jokers!!!!  No wonder it was so hard to get enough points to meld.

Basic Canasta consists of 4 players 2 packs of 52 cards are used, including the jokers.

One of the decks of cards had punch holes throughout the deck - that was the deck that did not include the jokers.  Terry says it was probably a deck of cards from Las Vegas or a Cruise, where jokers are not part of the betting games, and that the holes are to assure no one integrates their own cards into a game.

We came home and called Ida to thank her for the valentine she sent to us, which just arrived.  We then learned that one of her nieces had died.   Our hearts go out to her brother and his family.
